YEAR LONG PROGRAMS:

Ballet (open to both boys and girls): Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms, it provides grace, poise, and technique needed to be proficient in all other areas of dance. Ballet classes will help dancers with posture, flexibility, fitness, balance, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Our year long ballet programs are appropriate for dancers age 4+ (age as of December 31) OR as a follow-up for dancers who participated in our Teeny Feet Program the year prior. Dancers Edge will offer five levels of Ballet next season. New families joining Dancers Edge for the upcoming dance season should check with the office prior to registering to confirm the best level of ballet for their child.

Our yearlong Tap programs are appropriate for dancers age 4+ (age as of December 31) OR as a follow-up for dancers who participated in our Teeny Feet Program the year prior. Dancers Edge will offer six levels of Tap next season. Previous DE dancers should register in the level of Tap indicated on their placement sheet. Hip-Hop (open to both boys and girls): A groovy dance form developed in the South Bronz in New York City in the 70’s. This class is filled with the latest popular dance steps and music. Hip Hop is an umbrella term as there are many styles and techniques of Hip Hop such as locking, funk, krump, house, and whacking. Students will get a taste of several styles and be able to use basic steps to create explosive Hip Hop moves and find their own unique style as a Hip Hop dancer. All these elements make the dance exciting, energetic and inspiring. Our yearlong Hip-Hop programs are appropriate for dancers age 5+ (age as of December 31,) Previous DE dancers should register in the level of Hip-Hop indicated on their placement sheet. New families joining Dancers Edge for the upcoming dance season should check with the office prior to registering to confirm the best level of Hip-Hop for their child.

Lyrical (ages 9+): Lyrical combines the best of Ballet with the raw energy of Jazz and a dash of modern. It is one of the most expressive forms of dance. It requires excellent technique to perform, as the moves are often difficult and precise. The goal is to help dancers learn to convey the emotions of a song by making them aware of their facial expressions, and body movements. To take Lyrical, dancers must have at least one year of previous ballet experience and be currently enrolled in a Ballet program. Dancers are placed based on a combination of the age and experience in either level 1 or level 2.

Pointe (ages 12+): To participate in the Pointe Program at Dancers Edge you must be at least 12 years of age and must have the approval of a ballet instructor and the Studio Owner. For the 2018-2019 dance season it is our goal to have two Senior Staff in each of our Pointe Classes to allow for a greater variation of Pre-Pointe vs Pointe dancers in the same space.  If the Instructors feel it is safe to do so we will potentially have a group of Pointe dancers doing choreography. At the Instructors request we are providing one hour long class per week. Dancers who are entering this program SHOULD NOT go and purchase pointe shoes until their instructor feels they are safely ready to transition from Pre-pointe to the pointe section of this class.

Musical Theater Production(Ages 8+): The musical theater program at Dancers Edge is best described as an upbeat style of dance combining Broadway jazz and lip-syncing. Dancers Edge has combined two levels of Musical Theater to create one large scale production class.

Modern (Ages 9+): Modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings/ Modern dance was created as a rebellion against classical ballet, emphasizing creativity in choreography and performance. Dancers Edge offers two levels of Modern Dance, please contact the studio to confirm which level of Modern is best for your child. Ballet is NOT a requirement for modern classes.

Acrobatic Arts (Ages 5+):  After a successful season trialing Acro in sessions we are offering year long programming and this will include a performance at the year end recital. There will be an opportunity for participants in this program to complete examinations at the discretion of our certified Acrobatic Arts instructor. Acrobatic Arts is an art form specifically for dancers. It has softer, more lyrical like lines than Gymnastics, with an emphasis on lengthening “through” the tricks and holding pretty balances with interesting variations.  We teach our students to dance into and out of Acro tricks, with minimal obvious “prep” before and after a trick. Despite being technically difficult to execute, acrobatic tricks are meant to blend in seamlessly with dance steps, providing an extra level of excitement and flair to dance choreography. Dancers interested in Acro with no experience must register in the primary level course (Junior and Senior). Dancers who successfully completed the previous Acro program can register in Level 1/2 or Level 3 based on the placement letter. Dancers safety is paramount and placement letters and instructor feedback are taken very seriously.
